A local running club from Wigton in Cumbria has raised money and awareness for Motor Neurone Disease by linking up for a huge 10k event around the town.

Wigton Road Runners organised a 10k on the 15th of October which involved 150 runners hitting the roads around the town and attracting runners from as far afield as Newcastle.

The event was a huge success and has raised £4261.92 to support people living with MND in the community and their families. This included £1000 that was raised by Raymond Millburn in a fundraising dinner prior to the run.

The event was supported by local businesses Innovia Films and Futamura UK Ltd who sponsored the medals and event timing.

Water and bananas were donated by the local Co-Op and the Wigton town council provided the event facilities at Barton Laws free of charge. The Mayor of Wigton, Chris Scott was on hand to welcome the runners at the finish line and hand out finisher medals.

Speaking about the event Regional Fundraiser for the MND Association Dominic McDonough said “I was absolutely blown away by the sheer passion of all of the organisers to raise money and awareness for us. They have raised an incredible amount and it really was such a memorable day, bringing people together to fight this terrible disease.”
