POLICE were summoned to a house in Carlisle in a 999 call by an alleged assault victim - who was illegally with a woman he was banned from seeing.

Jennen Geeraerts, 32, was found at the woman’s address in Botcherby, despite a court having earlier banned him from having any contact with her under the terms of a restraining order that was meant to protect her.

At the city’s Rickergate court, Geeraerts admitted breaching that order as well as an offence of possessing cannabis.

Prosecutor Jackie Partington said the defendant made his 999 call at 6.22pm on Sunday, November 26, when he claimed that the woman had assaulted him at her home in Ennerdale Avenue, Carlisle.

“He said he’d been staying at her address and that his partner had assaulted him,” said the prosecutor. “He said he’s been staying there for a few months.”

This was despite the court having imposed the restraining order on May 30 when the defendant was prosecuted for assaulting the woman. Alleged offences arising out of the defendant’s account were being investigated.

John Smith, defending, said Geeraerts claimed that the woman had persuaded him to move from his home in Wales to stay with her.

“If released, he will return to south Wales,” said the lawyer.

“Both are saying that they assaulted each other.

"He certainly seems to be the one with the more serious injuries. He was the person who dialled 999 to complain that he had been the victim of an assault.”

Magistrates said they will pass sentence on December 19 when a background Probation Service report has been prepared about the defendant. The defendant, of Bridgend, Pen-y-Bont ar Ogwr, was granted bail until that day.

It is conditional on him not coming to Cumbria except for legal appointments or for appointments with the Probation Service.
