A DRIVING ban and a curfew have been handed to a north Cumbrian man who was caught behind the wheel of his car with two illegal drugs in his system.

Thomas Perkins, 34, of Mayfield Avenue, Harraby, committed the two offences as he drove a Suzuki Vitara on the A1 southbound at Wetherby on April 26, Carlisle’s Rickergate court heard.

He admitted both offences.

Perkins was over the limit for cannabis and benzoylecgonine, a breakdown product of cocaine.

After hearing the details, magistrates imposed a 42 month ban and imposed a community order which includes a 7pm to 7am curfew as well as up to 15 days of rehabilitation activity.

The curfew will be electronically tagged and will run until February 4 next year. Perkins must pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £114 victim surcharge.

The cocaine breakdown product benzoylecgonine was present in the defendant’s system at 244mcg per litre of blood. The limit is 50mcg. The reading for the active ingredient of cannabis was more than three times the permitted level.
