A day of festive family craft fun was had at a Cumbrian railway station.

Appleby Craft Group hosted its first family craft session at Appleby station creating festive decorations.

The Settle Carlisle Railway Development Company invited the group who also created the crochet Christmas tree in the town, to provide a special festive workshop for the local community and visitors in the waiting room area.

The Settle Carlisle Railway Development Company is hoping to host more events in the station buildings for the local community and have invited the Appleby Craft Group to host an Easter workshop next year.

The Family Festive Crafting morning was free, with a suggested donation of £5 per family and all crafting materials were provided by Appleby Craft Group and refreshments by Settle Carlisle Railway Development Company.

Vice-chair of the Settle Carlisle Railway Development Company, John Moorhouse, said: “We were delighted and grateful to the Appleby Craft Group for accepting our invitation to host the Christmas Crafting session in the waiting room at Appleby Railway Station.

“These types of events are great opportunities for us to support the local community and look forward to welcoming Appleby Craft Group back at the station in the new year, and other groups who would like to use our warm and friendly station.”

Shirley Simpson of Appleby Craft Group said: “The Waiting Room was a wonderful place to host the family craft workshop and we had plenty of Christmas crafts to make.

“We are hosting another open craft day in Appleby Library on Friday, December 22 from 2-4pm and places can be reserved at the library, and are planning to return to Appleby Station in March to host a family Easter crafting session.”
