Avanti West Coast will host a Christmas Fayre at Carlisle station to raise funds for local charities.

The event, scheduled between 9am and 3.30pm on December 9, is being held in aid of Eden Valley Hospice, the station team’s nominated cause.

The station will morph into a cheery marketplace featuring stalls from independent businesses, a Santa's grotto and festive children's activities.

It will give the community a chance to purchase Christmas gifts and enjoy festive treats and entertainment while supporting local causes.

The day's proceedings will support Eden Valley Hospice and their children's hospice, Jigsaw, both dedicated to the care of those who have life-limiting conditions.

Christmas carols will be performed at the event by the hospice choir.

The fayre is Avanti West Coast's first fundraising event for their nominated charity.

It follows the inclusion of a charity bookshelf on one of the platforms at Carlisle, allowing people to take a book in return for a donation to the hospice.

Michael Byrne, Avanti West Coast Station Manager at Carlisle, said: “The team are really proud to be hosting a Christmas Fayre that supports local businesses and will bring some joy to people of all ages in the run up to the festive period, as we want to make a positive difference to the community.

“This unique event is wrapped up in the Christmas spirit and we hope it offers everyone the chance to show their appreciation for local causes that hold a special place in their hearts.

“We look forward to welcoming people to the station for some festive fun while raising vital funds to support the important work of Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw.”
