A DOCTOR'S surgery in Dalton has revealed the massive amount of hours wasted by people failing to turn up to appointments.

Market Street Medical Practice says 33 hours of appointment time was wasted due to non-attendance.

The surgery made the announcement on its Facebook page on Tuesday (December 5) to raise awareness of patients with the onset of winter illnesses.

A post on the Market Street Medical Practice page read: "

"As we go into December appointments are in extra high demand due to winter illnesses.

"If you have made an appointment but are no longer able to attend or feel it is no longer necessary please let the surgery know."

"During November 33 hours of appointment time was wasted due to non attendance.

"This is as frustrating for clinicians and staff as it is for patients.

"Please also remember you can gain advice from the pharmacist both in the community and here at the surgery.

"We also have first contact physiotherapists and the Mental Health Practitioner based at the surgery which is why our receptionists ask for information when you call to direct you to the most appropriate care provider."
