A CUMBRIAN MP has met with the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero secretary.

Copeland MP Trudy Harrison wanted to stress the importance of forthcoming nuclear decisions for West Cumbria.

Other details including Sellafield and issues addressed at the recent COP28 in Dubai were also addressed.

Mrs Harrison said: "Following on from my question in the Chamber last week, today I met with Department for Energy Security and Net Zero Secretary Claire Courtino to urge forthcoming nuclear decisions for our area and to discuss her recent success at COP28 UAE, where 22 countries all agreed to triple nuclear energy capacity by 2050.

"I also sought assurance that the cyber security at Sellafield Ltd is safe, secure, and free from any successful state or nonstate attacks.

"I took the opportunity to invite Claire to West Cumbria to meet the wider nuclear workforce and to see for herself why we are the UK’s centre for Nuclear Excellence."
