A popular cafe in Cumbria is celebrating after being named the best dog friendly cafe in the UK.

Hope Park Games and Cafe is a hotspot for dog-lovers in the Keswick area, and has regularly been recognised for its tremendous work accommodating four-legged members of the family.

Last year, they finished as runners-up in the dog friendly awards but this year they were able to go one step further and claimed the award on November 29 at the Kennel Club, London.

The nationwide awards showcase and reward places that are friendly to dogs, and Hope Park can now proudly say that it is the best of the best after winning the public vote and being crowned the winners at last month's event.

On Facebook, they wrote: "Oh my God! We’ve only gone and won! Best Dog Friendly Cafe in the UK! This is going to take a while to sink in! Thank you so much to everyone that voted for us and all our doggy visitors! You’re the best!"

They later added: "Still on cloud nine after yesterday’s amazing news that our little cafe has been voted the BEST Dog Friendly Cafe in the UK! Huge thanks to our amazing team who all work so hard and genuinely love our doggy visitors.

"And thanks to you! For all your votes, your kind messages and your custom! We really do have the best customers ever!"

It is no surprise that the cafe has been honoured at the Dog Friendly Awards when you consider how much work the staff do to ensure that canines can enjoy their time there.

The cafe has a dog-friendly menu that features canine classics such as scrambled eggs, sausages, and ice cream, while broken ice cream cones are given away for free.

Viki Mallaghan, previously told the News and Star: "Keswick has made a huge effort to be one of the most dog-friendly towns in the UK.

"Most people who come here bring their four-legged friends with them.

"We're a really family-friendly venue and when you talk about family, most people now include their pets in that."
