THE case of a lorry driver who is accused of causing a man’s death by careless driving on the A66 in Cumbria has been sent to Carlisle Crown Court.

Nathan Walker, 26, made a brief appearance before Carlisle’s Rickergate court, where he declined to formally indicate his plea to the allegation, which relates to a traffic collision at Kirkby Thore on December 22, 2021.

The prosecution case is that the defendant, of Hall Close, Hemsworth, Pontefract, caused the death of Paul Stenner by driving a MAN goods vehicle carelessly.

The man who died was in another goods vehicle.

District Judge John Temperley said the complexity of the case, which will involve medical evidence, meant it is best suited to Carlisle Crown Court rather than the magistrates’ court.

He sent the case to that court for a plea hearing on January 5. The defendant, represented by barrister Lucy Wright, was granted bail until that time.
