AS we approach the most popular time of year for deliveries, Brits are being warned to take extra care as over 12 million of us have had a parcel stolen.

Nearly a quarter of all parcel theft happens in December, with Christmas giving thieves the perfect chance to strike as this crime continues to rise.

It is estimated that there will be over 500 million online sales in the last two months of 2023 across the UK, which has prompted experts at security retailer Safe.co.uk to create a guide on how consumers can prevent their parcels from being stolen.

Anthony Neary, managing director for Safe.co.uk, commented: “It’s alarming to see that parcel theft is rising and this is likely to get worse over the next few weeks as thieves look for easy opportunities.

"The convenience of online shopping means it will account for the majority of purchases in the run up to Christmas, so it’s important that we take action, and ideally are at home for any valuable deliveries.

"Drivers are stretched at this time of year, so make their lives easier by providing clear instructions if you aren’t going to be in so that your parcels are protected."
