THE Christmas lights have been lit up in Carlisle since November 19, when legendary singer Chesney Hawkes was joined by Blues manager Paul Simpson for the official switch on.
The event was a big success and the lights have been an attractive addition to the city centre for the past five weeks.
A Freedom of Information request posed to Cumberland Council has revealed how much was spent on installing and maintaining the lights.
According to the FOI, the council spent £49,800 on the Christmas lights in 2023.
Lights can be seen throughout the centre in Market Square and English Street.
