AROUND 200 people were in attendance for a Christmas and New Year party that is centred on bringing together international NHS staff, their families, and the extended community.
Organised by non-profit ORUMA (Organisation of United Malayalies), the Nakshatra Raav event (which translates to Star Night) took place at Carlisle's Rockcliffe Centre on December 27.
Sneha Jestin, staff nurse in the Cumberland Infirmary's A&E department as well as an executive member of the group, said the event was a very successful celebration.
"The reviews we got were very nice, lots of great feedback. Thank you to everyone who came.
"There were many people who missed it but we hope to see them in the future. Everyone's support was incredible," she said.
The event was full of cultural programmes, such as carol competitions, Christmas tree and cake competitions, raffles, lots of food, music and dancing.
It was also attended by two special guests, a media reporter from India, sHYMON Thotumkal as well as pastoral support coordinator from North Cumbria Integrated Care, Beverley Bennett.
A welcome speech was given by Vineesh Maliekal and a vote of thanks by Jestin Samuel.
ORUMA, a group largely made up of NHS international staff, has sought to build a sense of community among international residents in Cumbria ever since its inception.
Its group is currently made up of over 300 members.
All of the members are from the south Indian state of Kerala and they currently reside in different locations in Cumbria, including Carlisle, Penrith, Appleby and Whitehaven.
The group welcomes anyone to join and participate in future events.
