A 13-year-old has been given an interim ban by Carlisle United over the incident which saw Port Vale goalkeeper Connor Ripley abused on New Year's Day.
Cumbria Police today said the teenager had been "identified and spoken to" by officers in connection to the incident.
The force added that enquiries are continuing into the matter.
Ripley said someone in the Warwick Road End during Monday's game at Brunton Park had told him to "go and hang yourself".
Carlisle apologised to the goalkeeper and his club, and condemned the incident.

Police then issued a statement urging the culprit to come forward, whilst also asking other fans for their help in identifying the individual.
Now Inspector Kim Brown from Cumbria Police has given a further update.
In a post on social media, she wrote: "A 13 yr old has been identified & spoken to by Police. Support in place. An interim ban issued by @officialcufc while enquiries continue into the complaint.

Police said they had been reviewing camera footage from the relevant area in Monday's game, which Carlisle won 2-1.
Ripley said he was disgusted by the comment which came from United's home end.
And Carlisle, in their own statement, said the remarks "embarrass and shame us all".
The club contacted Ripley personally to apologise while chief executive Nigel Clibbens said: "Everyone knows the Warwick Road End has seen really positive developments in terms of atmosphere but it continues to see regular incidents of disorder and now abuse. It’s extraordinarily disappointing.
"We appeal to fans to stop and behave. This cannot go on."
