Carlisle’s bare-knuckle boxing champion Danny Christie has confirmed details of his next fight.
The British light-heavyweight champion from Currock will take on north east fighter Jamie Jones in his own back yard.
The two men will go head to head in Newcastle in April.
Christie and Jones had been due to meet in the BKFC in November 2022 but the latter pulled out through injury.
The Cumbrian and the Gateshead fighter will now do battle on Saturday, April 6.
It will see Christie back in action for the first time since suffering his first BKFC defeat to American Jared Warren last November.
The Carlisle man says he is anticipating a well-matched contest with a fighter he respects.
“Jamie Jones is an ex-pro, he’s had a ridiculous amount of unlicensed fights, MMA fights,” said Christie on his YouTube channel.
“I think his combined record is something ridiculous like 130-odd wins and only 12 losses. That tells you all you need to know about him.
“We do get on. There’s nothing personal, I rather like the lad – he’s got a mouth on him, which I like.
“I don’t think Jamie will mind me saying we’re both past our best, but we’re still game, still here and there’s enough left in both our tanks to put on a brilliant match.
“We’re well matched and let the best man win.”
The fight is the main event at The Straightener Show at Newcastle’s Walker Dome.
It will involve three two-minute rounds, with organisers saying tickets will be available soon.
Christie remains one of the top-ranked light-heavyweights in the world despite his defeat to Warren in Leeds.
The Currock boxer is rated third behind world champion Lorenzo Hunt and Warren in the current official BKFC rankings.
He earned the British title after defeating Anthony Holmes in his previous BKFC outing, following earlier wins against Terry Brazier and Darren Godfrey.
Christie, after the Warren defeat, said he would be taking time to consider his future but has since confirmed he intends to be involved in a number of fights this year.
