City centre roadworks have been announced, lasting for ten nights.

The work will happen on London Road between Charles Street and Brook Street in Carlisle.

Cumberland Council said the resurfacing works are being done to improve the road's durability and quality.

Workers will be replacing ironwork for future maintenance accessibility and renewing line markings along the road.

The works are scheduled to start on Wednesday, January 17, and finish on Tuesday, January 30, meaning they will last for ten nights, although the council said that this was 'weather permitting'.

The council said it needs to close the road each evening to let them complete the works safely.

There will be a full diversion route in place, a map of which is viewable by clicking here or seen below in an image.

The resurfacing works will happen every evening from approximately 7pm to 1am, according to the council.

The road will be accessible outside of these hours if it is considered safe.

The council also asked residents to find alternative car parking during these works.

A spokesperson from the council said: "If residents or businesses require access to their property, we kindly request that this is discussed with the traffic marshal who will be on site during the works, please be aware that there might be some delays accessing properties.

"The council is reminding the community that businesses within the area remain open and will be fully operational.

"Access will be maintained for emergency services during the works.

"Cumberland Council wishes to thank the community for their continued support and patience while improvements are made to the road network and apologises for any inconvenience."
