A SCHOOL in West Cumbria is set to host students from a city in China for the next two weeks.
On Thursday, January 11, St Bees welcomed 10 students from Huangguang Middle School in Guangzhou.
Guangzhou is a sprawling port city northwest of Hong Kong on the Pearl River.
The students spent Thursday getting to know St Bees School and all the people that are a part of it.
On Friday, they joined lessons in Year 7 and Year 9 and experienced what it is like going to boarding school in the UK.
Although St Bees has several sister schools in China, these students have come from another school that St Bees has a close relationship with.
They are staying in Cumbria for two weeks and and have reportedly settled in well so far.
Students will spend half of their time in the UK staying with local families and the other half staying in a local B&B very close to the school.
On the weekends they will be going on trips to Edinburgh and Manchester, as well as visiting Whitehaven to go to The Beacon and The Rum Story.
St Bees said that it is 'very excited' to be hosting the students and has plenty planned for them over the next two weeks.
Headmaster Robin Silk said: "We are absolutely delighted to have a visiting group of Chinese students from Guangdong Province. Building our relationship with young Chinese students and their schools is key to the global citizens we are endeavouring to educate at St Bees School."
