A Kenyan school currently under redevelopment is in urgent need of funds to help procure 15 desktop computers in line with the school's curriculum.

Paul Moffat, from Carlisle, and his wife Eunice opened the Future of Taru Academy, offering both primary and secondary schooling as a way of providing quality education, food and support to those living in the poorly equipped town of Taru, north of Mombasa.

The school size has since grown from around 20 pupils in 2017 to over 450.

If it wasn't for generous locals sponsoring the children around 60 per cent of those attending school wouldn't be there.

As part of the school's redevelopment, Paul and Eunice are creating new rooms for boarding as well as upgrading the general facilities of the building.

"We have this week installed an additional solar panel, and thus a better range of solar power. Alongside this, we now have WiFi in the school, which is a major step forward," Paul said.

"We now urgently require a minimum of 15 desktop computers and a printer for the high school, so that we can fulfill the IT classes in the Kenyan curriculum, and give our teachers a better facility to plan and learn and grow.

"On behalf of the pupils and teachers and staff of Future Of Taru Academy, asante sana," he said.

The fundraiser hopes to raise £1,050 for the necessary purchase.

It follows a successful drive for textbooks in which £700 was raised.

Paul is also reaching out to local companies who may be able to provide computers,  ultimately helping to provide education to where it's needed most.

The school also updated its contact details, welcoming any queries to their newly established email info@futureoftaru.org.
