Online food delivery company Deliveroo has revealed its shortlist for the best restaurant and takeaway options from across the UK.
The Deliveroo Restaurant Awards celebrate the best restaurants across the country, from independent burger joints to neighbourhood sushi restaurants and all the dishes and flavours in between.
Despite the wide range of options in Carlisle and the wider county, especially in the Lake District, none from Cumbria would make the shortlist.
So, the News & Star has assembled five of the best takeaway options in Carlisle, based on their overall ratings on Deliveroo.
1. K-Town Chicken, Botchergate
The Korean fried chicken joint on Botchergate has been hugely popular since opening, and has amassed a 4.7/5 rating on the website after over 100 reviews. Inspired by the vibrant flavours of Seoul street food, K-Town Chicken mixes punchy Korean sauces with juicy triple-breaded chicken fillets.
2. Paolo's Fish and Chip Shop, Denton Holme
After Deliveroo controversially omitted fish and chips from its list of categories in the restaurant awards, it was only right to list Paolo's on the arguably far superior News & Star list. The popular chippie has a 4.5 rating with over 500 reviews, and celebrated its 10th year in business last year.
3. Nando's, Carlisle
The South African chain has been a staple in most English cities for many years now, and the one in Carlisle is clearly a popular choice. Selling chicken, burgers, wraps and veggie options, alongside its iconic peri-salted chips, it is perhaps no surprise that the restaurant has a 4.3 rating on Deliveroo.
4. Sin City Burgers, Botchergate
The national chain has a restaurant in Walkabout on Botchergate and offers a wide range of burger options, including fully-loaded and plant-based. The restaurant's messy chips and big burgers are sure to satisfy any cravings, and the local opinion is good, with a 4.3 rating on Deliveroo.
5. Pizza Express, Carlisle
It is no surprise to see the huge pizza chain make this list, given its popularity across the world. The dough balls are a must, and the pizzas always hit the spot, earning Pizza Express a 4.2 rating.
