A MOUNTAIN team rescued two walkers after getting lost and cold.
On Monday evening, the Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team received an alert from Cumbria Police that two walkers who had attempted to climb Scafell Pike had strayed into Upper Eskdale and reported themselves lost and cold.
The mountain team explained that their location was in a remote situation at the end of their operational area, meaning a long wait for the pair as the team mobilised with a hasty party taking the shorter route from Wasdale and others via Eskdale in case they walked downhill.
A spokesperson for WMRT said: "Fortunately the police call was able to establish coordinates.
"Once the team were on scene, after some rewarming in a bivvy shelter and extra clothing they were able to walk back down to Wasdale where their car was located.
"It’s worth a reminder that mobile phone signal should not be relied upon in many parts of Wasdale and Eskdale. These walkers were somewhat fortunate to get enough of a signal to phone 999 at this location."
The rescue took 6h20 and involved 18 members plus their dog Jess.
