IN this edition of nostalgia, we are looking back at one of Cumbria's most loved sports and sporting events, running.
Across Cumbria, there are a wide variety of runs that people of all abilities can take part in.
Weekly Parkrun events take place across the county, as well as numerous 5 and 10k runs. The Wainwrights, one of most popular peak challenges in the UK, includes all 214 of the Lake District fells.
Cumbria, with its scenic landscapes and challenging terrains, is a haven for fell runners. The Cumbria fell running scene is active with various events and races taking place throughout the year.
Some of the most notable fell running races in Cumbria include the Borrowdale Fell Race, the Great Lakes Race in Wasdale and the annual Grizedale Forest Trail Races.
While fell running in Cumbria is quite challenging due to its steep gradients, rocky paths, and often unpredictable weather conditions, it gives those participating a new unique challenge.
However, due to the inherent risks and challenges associated with fell running, it requires not only good running ability but also navigational skills and a high degree of self-reliance.
However, there are also running events for all the ages in Cumbria. In some of the pictures, we see runners taking part in a Fun Run and Gala Day at Copeland Stadium 1992, as well as the Sebergham brownies racing for the line in their sporting event.
