Cumberland Council will launch a new mobile service next week to recycle small electrical items.

Starting February 5, the 'Recycling Rambler' van will travel through various communities in West Cumbria, collecting items with a plug, cable, or batteries for sorting, reuse, or recycling.

This initiative is in collaboration with Cumbrian recycling company, CRL.

Set to operate in Egremont, Cleator Moor, Frizington, Millom, Seascale, and Whitehaven, the van will park at established points at exact times.

Councillor Denise Rollo, Cumberland's portfolio holder for sustainable, resilient and connected places, said: "The Rambler service is a great addition to our recycling service.

"It will provide an even easier way for people to recycle electricals safely and sustainably."

This six-month trial, funded by Material Focus with £62,744, complements the 26 local libraries and sports facilities' collection bins.

Scott Butler, executive director of Material Focus, said: "We are pleased to support Cumberland’s small electricals recycling project.

"By investing in improved collection and drop-off services, and exploring new recycling methods, we are taking a significant step towards creating a more sustainable future."

The project serves the area previously monitored by Copeland Borough Council, aiming for a reduction in small electricals ending up in domestic waste bins.
