A NEW boardwalk will be opened in a West Cumbrian town lnext week, with the council saying they are 'really excited' by the project.
A spokesman for Cumberland council said; "Maryport's new Boardwalk will be officially opened on Monday and we're really excited by this project which links the harbourside and the promenade, making the area accessible to all
"Local resident Mick Reilly kindly tested it out on his mobility scooter this week as part of the final checks of the structure.
"Cowran Estates Services Ltd, based in Ulverston, used the skills of local subcontractors to complete the project. The Boardwalk is part of the transformation of Maryport’s public realm using money from the Government’s Future High Streets Fund. The colour of the walkway was chosen by the public - it's called 'sand' which is highly appropriate given its seaside location!
"We hope you enjoy the easy crossing of La'al Harbour, as the beach is locally known."
