Cumbria Police alongside the Home Office Immigration Enforcement carried out raids in Carlisle last night targeting businesses employing illegal workers.
Two businesses in Carlisle discovered employing workers without UK work rights now face significant fines.
A spokesperson from Cumbria Police said: "This is part of our commitment to showing a contempt for criminality.
"Illegal workers often signify unscrupulous business practices and links to organised crime as well as represent vulnerable people being exploited in our communities.
"Workers employed who do not have the right to work are often underpaid or subjected to working and living conditions that fall far below that expected under UK law.
"If you have information of exploitation or modern day slavery we would urge you to contact the Police on 101 or if you would prefer to remain anonymous via Crime stoppers on 0800 555 111," they said.
