CIVIC leaders have sent their best wishes to King Charles following his diagnosis with cancer.
Buckingham Palace has announced the diagnosis which was made while the monarch, 75, was being treated in hospital for a benign enlarged prostate.
A statement from Buckingham Palace said: “During the king’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted.
“Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer. His majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties.”
Copeland MP Trudy Harrison said: "I think the country, Commonwealth and beyond will appreciate the way that His Majesty has encouraged all to take their health seriously.
"We send him all good wishes and the very best for his treatment and recovery."
Workington MP Mark Jenkinson said: "I wish the King well with his treatment, and pray for a speedy recovery. My thoughts are with the King and the whole of the Royal Family. God Save The King."
Barrow MP Simon Fell said: "I wish his Majesty a full and speedy recovery. It speaks volumes to his character that the King has made his diagnosis public to raise awareness and understanding of cancer. He and his family are in my prayers."
Tim Farron, MP for Westmorland and Lonsdale, said: “I am deeply shocked and saddened to hear of the news. I am sure I speak for everyone when I say he has served us dutifully for many years and hopefully will for many years to come.
“From what I know of him he will find it hard to do nothing, but I do hope that he takes the rest that he has been advised to take for him and also the rest of the country.
“I think it is very brave of him to talk about it so openly and to let those know who are currently battling cancer, or who have in the past, that they're not alone.”
Carlisle MP John Stevenson said: “Wishing His Majesty a very speedy recovery.”
