LAKES College is helping more than 1,000 apprentices to get a head start in their chosen career.
The fast-growing college offers a huge range of apprenticeships from Level 2 to degree-level learning at Level 6, delivering the workforce of the future for 700 local and national employers.
Lakes is taking part in a week-long celebration of its 1,000 apprentices in National Apprenticeship Week this week, with learners tackling skills challenges and outstanding apprentices invited with their employers to an event recognising their achievements.
Chris Nattress, principal at Lakes College, said: “Our apprenticeship offer with hundreds of employers continues to grow and with a huge range of opportunities in a wide variety of industries from Level 2 to degrees at Level 6, there really is something for everyone.
“Whether you’re looking to kick-start your career, keen on a change or want to progress to the next level, an apprenticeship via Lakes is your chance to earn while you learn the knowledge, skills and behaviours which will help you to get where you want to be.”
An apprenticeship is a way to earn while you learn, getting hands-on experience in the workplace.
Lakes College offers apprenticeships in a huge range of sectors, including business, care, nuclear, engineering, hospitality, digital, education and construction.
The college launched the Apprenticeship Academy in 2023, delivering more than 110 apprenticeships for major employers in Cumbria including Nuclear Waste Services, TSP Engineering and National Nuclear Laboratory.
The academy offers support with CV development and interview skills to strengthen the candidate’s application before they engage with prospective employers.
Millie McCabe was one of more than 116 apprentices to secure an apprenticeship through the academy in 2023, starting as a business administrator apprentice at Altrad.
Millie said: “I’ve enjoyed doing everything in my apprenticeship so far and seeing what other people do in the office is helping me to understand and learn.
“I’m incredibly grateful for the support I’ve received from Lakes College.
“The college has a great support system of people who really want to help you achieve your goals.”
