Nine-year-old Leo Mason has been making strides in promoting the therapeutic benefits the great outdoors has for those with Tourette's syndrome with the help of his first community group hike.

Leo, who has seen a decline in his own involuntary tics recently, aims to complete all 214 Wainwrights before his eleventh birthday, a goal he set with his father, Michael Mason.

During the challenge, the youngster from Allonby has been spreading the word and aiming to get others on the Wainwrights with him.

This weekend, shortly after completing his 100th Wainwright, Leo was joined by nine people for a hike up Rannerdale Knott.

"The first thing he said when he woke up was that he was really excited," his father Michael said.

"Although the weather was as bad as it possibly can be on one of those walks, it was really nice.

"We had a variety of people turn up, we had a Tracey turn up for her first-ever Wainwright.

"Ben came with two of his daughters, one of whom also suffers from Tourette's syndrome - they loved it.

"It's had a really good knock-on effect, there's already an interest for the next one," Michael said.

The Mason family is extending a warm invite for anyone to get involved in their next group hike, tackling Fellbarrow and Low Fell on February 25.
