A pianist known for her baroque renditions will be tickling the proverbial ivories at a beautiful Carlisle venue.
Jill Crossland, a concert pianist with a penchant for Bach, will be performing at Carlisle Cathedral this afternoon (February 7) in the Fratry Hall.
Since her student years, she performed Bach’s ‘Well-Tempered Clavier’ from memory, and also enjoys playing music from the classical period.
A recording of her playing parts one and two of the Well-Tempered Clavier received glowing reviews, notably from Gramophone, in which a 2008 interview described the ‘warm, rounded and perpetually signing sonority’ of her playing.
This 2pm show is part of the cathedral’s series of live music.
Entry is free, though a collection will be taken at the end of the concert to support the artist and the cathedral.
The concert is described as ‘informal’ and people in attendance are invited to purchase refreshments from the café to enjoy while they listen.
