IN this edition of nostalgia, we will be looking back at leek shows across north Cumbria throughout the years.
Leek shows happen across Cumbria, they can sometimes be a stand alone event, or be incorporated into flower shows. Our archive search produces a huge amount of picture from throughout the decades of leek contests.
One shows the variety in the entries for the Leek Club show at the Shoulder of Mutton, Brampton in 1978. Pictured is John Snowden with leeks, Arthur Potts with onions and Tony Hind with a marrow.
The Stapleton Flower Show in 1967 and the Carlisle's Market Hall Flower Show in 1965 produced some great-looking leeks.
Other Leek Shows pictured include the 1981 show at the George in Warwick, the Dalston leek show in 1982 where Bluebell is pictured, and the Brampton leek show in 1966 where we see the Barley Stack.
