New toilets accessible for disabled people have been installed at two sites in Eden.
Rheged and Tebay services are now equipped with Changing Places UK toilets.
The toilets are larger with open space to allow better manoeuvrability, a changing bench and hoist, and have wheelchair accessible sinks with greater room underneath to allow space for the chair.
Changing Places said over 250,000 people in the UK rely on these toilets because standard accessible toilets do not meed the needs of all people with disabilities.
There are currently 1,400 Changing Places toilets in the UK and the recent introduction of facilities at Tebay Services Northbound and Rheged completes the company’s ambition to have their facilities at every motorway service station.
Westmorland and the government jointly funded the two new facilities, with support from Westmorland and Furness Council, Visit Eden and the former Eden District Council.
