AN ‘INCLUSIVE’ hub which will focus on the LGBTQ+ community is set to open in Whitehaven town centre.

Proud and Diverse Cumbria CIC has announced the upcoming launch of its ‘groundbreaking’ community support hub on lower King Street.

The inclusive hub is designed to serve all members of the public, with a particular focus on the LGBTQ+ community, welcoming individuals of all ages, faiths, and religions.

Since the success of Pride on the harbourside in September 2023 the team has been working hard to raise funds to open the hub in Whitehaven.

It is expected to open its doors in the next few months and will span four floors, offering a comprehensive range of services to foster connection, support, and education.

The hub's multifaceted design includes a youth zone, welcome centre, workshop space, and dedicated offices to cater to various needs within the community.

Proud and Diverse Cumbria will have its pride offices within the building alongside other LGBTQ plus organisations.

Glenn Anderson, of Proud and Diverse Cumbria CIC, said: "At Proud and Diverse Cumbria CIC, we are committed to creating an environment that embraces diversity and fosters inclusivity.

"The community support hub on King Street will be a space where everyone, regardless of age, faith, or background, can come together to find support, engage in activities, and build lasting connections."

Cllr Emma Williamson, deputy leader of Cumberland Council, said: “Diversity and inclusion is essential for creating a society that values and respects every individual.

“The new diversity and inclusion hub is a vital space for fostering inclusive culture and promoting understanding among people from different backgrounds.

“By embracing our differences and working together towards a common goal, we can build a brighter future for everyone."

Key features of the community support hub include:

1. Youth Zone: A specially designed area to cater to the needs and interests of young individuals, providing a safe and supportive environment for personal growth and community engagement.

2. Welcome Centre: A central hub to greet and assist visitors, offering refreshments and information about available local services, programs, and resources.
