Carlisle Cathedral has kicked off a fresh series of free live music, providing weekly opportunities to enjoy live tunes within the city's heart.
The events, all set for Wednesdays at 2pm in the Fratry Hall, are free to attend with collections taken towards the end to back the cathedral and the performing artists.
Only organ recitals are hosted in the cathedral.
The next event, an organ recital featuring David T.Shingler, organ scholar at Carlisle Cathedral, will be on February 14 at 2pm.
Ahead in the series are performances by guests such as the Dunelm Duo, Kenneth Wilson, the Ciambri Trio and Tim Beattie, while Edward Taylor will wrap up the series on March 27 with another organ recital.
Detailed information about these events is available on the cathedral’s website.
As half term approaches, the cathedral has several activities planned.
Starting with three events on February 12, Angel's View Tours will be hosted at 10.30am and 11.30am.
Visitors will climb up to the clerestory to view the cathedral from a unique perspective, getting up close to the great East Window and iconic starry ceiling.
Booking is essential, with tickets pricing at £4 per adult and free admission for children aged eight to 16.
Following that, a 10.30am Flourish session is planned in the Undercroft.
Flourish gives people the opportunity to explore new hobbies and interests, with the theme changing each month.
This month's focus is Mindful Colouring, designed to encourage relaxation, reduce stress and promote creativity.
The sessions are freely available and no booking is required.
At 2pm, Susan Allen from Wordsworth Grasmere will hold a Creative Writing Workshop for adults and secondary school-aged students, drawing inspiration from the Carlisle Cathedral beauty.
Tickets for this event are also available for free and bookings can be made in advance through the website.
The Little Stars Toddler Group is hosted every Friday at 10am.
There are also Treasure Hunt Activity Sheets and Sensory Trail available all year round from the Cathedral Welcome Desk.
On Ash Wednesday, 14 February, the 12.30pm Eucharist service will include the “imposition of the ashes”.
Special organ music will be featured in Friday Eucharist services from February 16 to March 22.
Carlisle Cathedral will host the launch of Revd Pauline Steenbergen’s book, "Embody Lent in 29 Yoga Postures" on February 17 in the Fratry Hall with free tickets.
