A THIEF has been jailed after his latest crime spree which saw him steal a pair of £900 sunglasses from a vehicle.

Nicky Hewitson, 36, stole items including sunglasses, a rucksack and  Bluetooth earphones from two vehicles in Workington on February 6, just days after being released from prison.

He had also breached a Criminal Behaviour Order three days earlier, by entering Boots on Murray Road in Workington, which he was prohibited from doing, and stole make-up products worth £40.

Hewitson admitted two charges of theft from a motor vehicle and charges of vehicle interference, theft from a shop and breaching a Criminal Behaviour Order, when he appeared before Workington Magistrates’ Court.

Magistrates felt the offences were so serious that only a custodial sentence could be justified. The reasons given for custody were the defendant’s ‘flagrant disregard for court orders’, his previous record for similar offences and because he was only released from prison on February 1.

Hewitson, of Roper Street, Workington, was jailed for a total of 16 weeks.
