Mariupol's history dating back 200 years and the impact of past events on its present is to be the focus of a talk next week.
Situated in Ukraine, Mariupol has been a refuge for nomadic peoples and a "corridor" for the mass migration from east to west, which is said to have greatly influenced the mentality of the city's inhabitants.
Professor Serge Plotnikov's discussion will shed light on the impact of the tragic events of spring 2022 when the Russian army took control of the city.
The event on February 22 at 7pm, will be held in Carlisle's The Fratry Hall.
It will be in Ukrainian with English translation and will last approximately 30-45 minutes, followed by a question and answer session.
