RENOWNED actor Joseph Marcell, famed for his portrayal of Geoffrey the butler in the 90s sitcom The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air, is heading towards a stage in Keswick.
The School for Scandal, directed by Seán Aydon, will run from March 7 to 16 at Theatre by the Lake, as part of its UK tour.
The classic comedy of manners, written by Richard B. Sheridan, will see Joseph Marcell play the role of Sir Peter Teazle.
The School For Scandal follows the story of Sir Peter Teazle who becomes suspicious about his wife's fidelity.
He believes she's being unfaithful, leading her to contemplate the idea, especially if she's already blamed for it.
Recently, Mr Marcell appeared in the debut feature film of Chiwetel Ejiofor, The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind.
The actor's extensive TV credits also include appearances in BBC's Mammoth and I Hate You, and he is soon to be featured in Candice Carty-William’s Queenie on Channel 4.
Apart from an illustrious TV career, Mr Marcell has also worked extensively in theatre, with acclaimed roles in Hamlet at the Young Vic, Lady Windermere's Fan directed by Kathy Burke, and King Lear produced by Bill Buckhurst at the Shakespeare’s Globe.
A spokesperson from Theatre by the Lake said: "The School For Scandal is one of the greatest comedies ever written, featuring an unforgettable cast of larger-than-life characters, each armed with a lacerating wit.
"Join us for a lightning-paced evening of romance, revenge and rollicking fun that promises to leave you entertained, enamoured – and perhaps even a little scandalised."
