A residential park has paid tribute to a much-loved resident who died earlier this month.
Harry Kershaw, of Meadow View Park Silloth, died peacefully at Keswick Hospital after a short illness on February 6.
Harry and his wife Madge, both from Bury in Lancashire originally, moved to Silloth roughly 18 years ago, a park spokesperson said in a statement.
“They enjoyed life here in Silloth. Madge was a keen gardener and soon had their plot looking lovely,” they added.
The two were both animal lovers, and Madge fed carrots and apples to the pony living in a field behind their home, but in 2013, Madge was lost to cancer, ‘and it was during a solitary walk on the seafront he decided he would get a rescue dog,’ the spokesperson said.
The dog, Rex, came from a rescue centre and was due to be destroyed, but was brought home by Harry.
The spokesperson added: “Harry always said they saved each other,” and said it was on the green at Skinburness that Harry 'walked Rex four times a day no matter what the weather'.
“Harry loved to stop for a chat and was always ready with a joke or one of his many stories of when he worked in the cotton mills or doing his National Service with the RAF police section.
“Due to increasing frailty, Harry could no longer manage to give Rex the care he required and Rex was rehomed in Silloth with a wonderful lady and is enjoying life with his new family.
“Harry will be sadly missed by his friends, neighbours and everyone here at Solway as he was a real character.”
