A MAN in his early 20s has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving after being caught in a foot chase by officers.

A report came into police shortly before 9.45am on Saturday, February 17 about a vehicle travelling at high speed towards the city centre on London Road.

The driver failed to stop for police and the car was reported to have hit a road sign near Mallyclose Drive.

The driver exited the vehicle and attempted to run on foot away from officers but was ultimately detained.

The incident occurred in front of a number of onlookers. A road sign was damaged, and debris was scattered across the road.

The vehicle, a grey Audi A4, was abandoned near to Mallyclose Drive and was towed away around 10.40am.
