OVER £700 has been raised for charities close to the Mayor of Carlisle's heart.
The Mayor's Charities Quiz, held at the Crown and Mitre Hotel, raised £732 for three charities that have a 'broader representation' in Carlisle.
Mayor Abdul Harrid shared thanks for all those who attended: "I was pleased to see so many local people attending the fundraising event to support these charities; their generous contributions are highly appreciated."
The charities to benefit included Carlisle's One World Centre (COWC), Carlisle Foodbank and Cash for Kids Cumbria.
He explained why each was chosen: "Carlisle One World Centre provides shelter and support for people who fear for their lives in their country of origins and have come here to find peace and a better life.
"Carlisle Food Bank provides residents of our city, our community, with food during these tough times.
"Cash For Kids has been putting a smile on children's faces, offering support when they desperately need it.
"I would like to thank each and everyone for attending and contributing towards these good causes," he said.
A spokesperson from Carlisle's One World Centre said: "We had a fantastic time at the Mayor of Carlisle’s charities quiz last night.
"Thanks a million to everyone who came along and supported the event, including our quiz masters, Chris and Sharon and Avanti West Coast for the raffle prize."
