Cumberland Council was forced into a clean-up job in Whitehaven earlier this week after a 'concerning' amount of litter and fly-tip waste was discovered.
Photos from the Rosebank open space in Whitehaven show the significant amount of litter and fly-tip waste that was dumped in the outdoor space.
On Facebook, Cumberland Council wrote: "We've noticed a concerning amount of litter and fly-tip waste in the area. However, our dedicated grounds operations team, stationed at Moresby, has been diligently tackling such issues across council sites. From trimming back overgrowth to tidying up spaces like this, we're committed to keeping Cumberland pristine.
"Let's work together to maintain cleanliness: remember to dispose of your litter properly by either taking it home or using the nearest bin. Your cooperation makes a world of difference."
On its website, Cumberland Council states:
"Fly-tipping is illegal dumping of rubbish.
"It is a serious offence and carries a large fine, or a prison sentence. It can cause environmental damage, can be dangerous and is costly to deal with.
"If you see somebody in the act of fly-tipping you should call the police on 101. You should not approach them, they might become aggressive, don't put yourself at risk.
"You should report fly-tipping straight away. We will investigate all reports."
