Cumbria police have confirmed it was a man who died after a house fire near Carlisle.
Several emergency service vehicles were seen on Brisco Road, south of the city, towards Brisco village this morning.
These included fire engines, police cars, ambulances, an air ambulance, and a CSI vehicle, according to eyewitnesses.
At around 10.30am, three fire engines were deployed to a report of a house fire at a property on the road.
Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said three engines from Carlisle West, Brampton and Penrith were called out at 10.30am this morning to a 'persons reported fire' on Brisco Road.
Crews removed a person from the fire, which was in the living room, and handed them into the care of paramedics.
But a Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said the person later died.
Crews were in attendance for two hours.
A spokesperson from Cumbria police confirmed the death in a statement: "Police were called at 10.34am today (February 24) as part of an emergency service response to a fire at a property in Brisco.
"A man was pronounced deceased following the fire.
"The death is not being treated as suspicious at this time."
