A family-owned candle production company is celebrating after reaching its fifth year in business.

The Victorian Candle Co., founded by Carlisle-based brothers Aidan Blackett, 26, and Ru Blackett, 22, has gone from strength-to-strength since its initial launch in March 2019.

And with more than 150,000 scented candles produced and sold since opening, the duo are showing no signs of slowing down.

The candles have also proven to be a hit nationally, with customers flocking to over 150 stockists across the UK, including in London and the Scottish highlands.

Ru oversees the candle production process and said: "We’re so thrilled to be celebrating our fifth year in business and never imagined we’d be pouring hundreds of candles from our very own workshop in the heart of Carlisle.

"We’ve built a dedicated customer base locally by offering free delivery around Carlisle, as well as nationally by attending markets and events across the country.

"Plans for future developments have already started and we’re looking forward to seeing what the future holds for us!"

Aidan oversees the company’s marketing efforts and added: "The people of Cumbria have been so supportive throughout our journey and we couldn't be more thankful.

"It’s been incredible to work with huge brands such as Canterbury Cathedral and Bellway Homes, and I can’t wait to see where we head next."

Even in the midst of the pandemic, the two brothers oversaw a huge boom in popularity, with their candles proving to be a shining light for many in those dark times, even featuring in renowned UK magazine Vanity Fair.

Tourist Information Centre, based in the Old Town Hall in Carlisle, is one of the company’s leading suppliers.

Laura Thompson, team leader at Tourist Information Centre, said: "We’ve worked with Aidan and Ru since 2020 and the candles have always proven to be a great hit with locals and tourists alike.

"We’re extremely passionate about sharing success stories from the city and beyond, and couldn't be more proud of their success."

The brothers are hosting a sale on their website to celebrate their business anniversary.
