ALMOST 1,500 people have signed up so far for Carlisle's half marathon and 10k, putting it on track to be its biggest year yet.

Similar to last year, the race, organised by Run Carlisle's Mike James and Ian Milburn, will commence and conclude at Brunton Park, home of Carlisle United.

Entries to book your spot for the event on March 17 are still available.

Runners are expected to set off at 9am.

The first three runners of each gender in both categories will walk away with both a trophy and cash prize, and additional awards will be given out to the best-performing veterans.

The half marathon and 10K, supported by Kate Robson Estate Agent, will also channel its proceedings towards four local charities.

The beneficiaries of the runners' generosity this year will be Eden Valley Hospice, People's First Advocacy, Hospice at Home, and Great North Air Ambulance.

The run has previously attracted runners down from North Scotland, all the way up from Surrey, and overseas travellers from Czech Republic and USA.

In order to ensure the safety of the competitors and spectators, various roads throughout the city will be temporarily closed from 8.30am to 10am.
