PARTS of Cumbria have been affected by 'bizarre' weather throughout yesterday evening, causing disruption in parts of the county this morning.
Pictures have shown the effects of hailstones in Whitehaven throughout yesterday evening, February 29.
The area of St James' Hill in Whitehaven has been particularly badly affected by the hailstones settling, causing cars to slide along the road.
One resident tweeted: "Bizarre weather in Whitehaven tonight. A snowbomb of snow and hail falling heavy and thick."
Another resident who witnessed the hailstones in the area throughout the evening, said: "It was beautifully noisy! It was nice to go back to sleep to.
"Not as nice now... cars sliding. Parents and children sliding. Not nice to see."
There was also snow outside of the Royal Standard in Whitehaven and around the harbour.
Cumbria police have received a handful of reports this morning from Whitehaven of drivers having difficulty in icy conditions.
A spokesman said reports had been around the Wellington Row and Harras Road area of the town.
