GOLFERS and businesses from across Cumbria are being invited to play in a charity event that will raise funds for Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice.

The golf day is set to take place on Friday, July 5 at Carlisle Golf Club and will see teams play in fours, with Stableford scoring and the best two scores on each hole count towards the team’s total.

The proceeds from the event will be used by the hospice to continue providing care for local adults and children with life-limiting illnesses as well as their loved ones.

This is the second edition of the event which was co-founded in 2023 by hospice trustee Mark Duffell along with friend and Carlisle Golf Club member Duncan Carter, a director of city law firm Bell Park Kerridge, with several local businesses such as Komatsu Forest Ltd, DSD Construction and the Castle Green Hotel, Kendal, all already on board.

Mark's father Brian died at the Hospice in 2017 and he explained his delight at being able to launch the event for a second.

"Helping to launch an event like this is a great way to remember Dad but also raise money for the hospice, which is such an important service for the county," Mark said.

"All hospices across the country are facing increased financial challenges due to the rising costs of things like energy and wages, so events like this are vital in raising the funds needed to keep the hospice in a strong financial position and be able to continue providing outstanding care to patients and families.

"We’re very grateful to Carlisle Golf Club for their support for this event, enabling us to host it on such a great course."
