A WOMAN who went into cardiac arrest at home and later died in hospital had taken prescribed and unprescribed drugs, an inquest found.

Stacey Georgina Sullivan, 39, died at The Cumberland Infirmary after she was discovered unresponsive at her home on in Carlisle on October 20, 2023.

An inquest into her death held at Cockermouth Coroners’ Court heard that paramedics attended the property on Thomson Street just after 2pm and confirmed Mrs Sullivan to be in cardiac arrest.

She was given CPR by paramedics and taken to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle where CPR was continued.

However, no reversible causes for the cardiac arrest could be found. CPR was stopped at 3.05pm and Mrs Sullivan was pronounced dead.

A toxicology report showed a number of substances in Mrs Sullivan's blood, including prescribed methadone and some unprescribed drugs.

The use of these substances caused respiratory depression, coma and Mrs Sullivan's death. There was no evidence that Mrs Sullivan intended to harm herself when she took the drugs.

Kirsty Gomersal, area coroner for Cumbria, concluded that Mrs Sullivan’s death was drug-related.
