A WEST Cumbrian school visited the Lake District for World Book Day.
Kirkland Academy pupils visited Buttermere to encourage children to become more interested in reading, and also to help them appreciate nature.
A school spokesperson said: "Books outdoors, fresh air, exercise, exploring, writing inspiration...an endless list of reasons why each year Kirkland Academy chooses to celebrate World Book Day in the great outdoors instead of the classroom.
"We've had an amazing day of exploring in the most beautiful place, Buttermere. Children will be story writing in class following on from their World Book Day adventures, using their waterside forest setting as a stimulus."
Holly, a Year 3 pupil said: "It was fantastic, I hope we can do it again soon."
Imogen, a Year 4 pupil said: "On our Buttermere trip, we walked around the lake. Each class had a story read to them. We ate our lunch in the forest and we played hide and seek and read our books."
Erin, another Year 4 pupil, added: "I love to be outside. We played hide and seek and on Friday we will write stories about it."
