A 'beloved' Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland volunteer is set to be remembered by his grandson's charity cycling challenge.
Norman Knapton, who has been described as a 'dedicated' volunteer by the charity that provides palliative care and end-of-life support across Cumbria, was a mainstay at Brampton's Hospice at Home shop where he continued giving his time well into his 90s.
Norman sadly died earlier this year. However, his dedication to the local charity is set to be commemorated by his grandson Noah, who is set to embark on a 1,258-kilometre fundraising challenge.
This challenge will take place between Sunday, May 12, and Saturday, July 6 across four cycling events including the Fred Whitton Challenge, the Tour of the Borders and Galloway, the Ride to the Sun, and the Coast to Coast to Coast, with Noah aiming to raise a £1 for every kilometre he cycles.
Debbie McKenna, Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland, paid tribute to Norman and thanked Noah ahead of his mammoth challenge.
She said: "Norman was a valued and loved member of our team, who supported us at Hospice at Home as a volunteer in many ways with tenacity and compassion.
"I am not surprised he had such pride when talking about his family and we are grateful for their continued support and Noah completing his challenge for our charity, enabling us to continue to provide end-of-life care at home."
Noah's challenge is expected to take around 60 hours to complete and almost two months from its start he has already raised over £600 through his JustGiving page which will contribute to the £1,718,901.48 that Hospice at Home must raise during the financial year to continue running.
Noah and Hospice at Home would also like to thank Liberty Workwear for donating a cycling jersey for the challenge.
