EMERGENCY services are on scene at a crash near the Sellafield site, as people are told to avoid the area.
The road both ways closed due to serious accident between the Blackbeck roundabout and Yottenfews roundabout due to an accident.
Emergency Services are understood to be at the scene dealing with the crash.
Cumbria police have reported stop-start traffic on A595 Southbound from Egremont Bypass to Sellafield Main Gate. Travel time is 35 minutes.
A police spokesman said: "Please avoid the area."

Sellafield Ltd. have released a statement for their employees regarding the 'serious road traffic accident' near to the site.
In a statement, Sellafield Ltd said: "Police are responding to a serious road traffic accident on the road between the Blackbeck and Yottenfews roundabouts.
"This section of road is currently closed in both directions and emergency services are in attendance.
"All other roads remain open but there is serious congestion in the area.
"Police are advising the public to avoid the area.
"Calder Gate, North Gate, and Main Gate are all open this morning and will remain so until the road is reopened."
