A Cumbrian author will join a Hollywood star known for his work on Parks and Recreation, The Last of Us, and the upcoming film directed by Alex Garland Civil War, at an event in New York.
Helen Rebanks, who lives with her husband James and four children on a farm in the Lakes where Herdwick sheep, cattle, chickens, and ponies are kept, will discuss the themes of her 2023 bestseller The Farmer’s Wife with superstar actor Nick Offerman, perhaps best known for his portrayal of Ron Swanson in the sitcom Parks and Recreation.
Mrs Rebanks will be in conversations with the Emmy-winning actor, author, and woodworker Mr Offerman about her book and their friendship.
He is also from a farming background and supported regenerative agriculture.
He is said to regularly stay on Mrs Rebanks’ farm to ‘hang out, eat beef, do DIY, build dry stone walls, and admire elite cows’.
He also has a growing stake in their Belted Galloway cattle herd, and will discuss with Rebanks nature-friendly farming as the ‘basis of a good life, both for helping us to eat well, but also to revive rural communities’, according to a description of the event by organisers WORD Bookstores.
The event takes place at the Church of Ascension, Brooklyn, New York, on Thursday, May 16, from 7-9pm Eastern Daylight Time.
