A NEW tattoo shop has opened up in Wigton, with an established artist now making his mark back in his hometown.
David Yarrow, who spent the last seven years honing his craft in Carlisle, is well-known for his unique 'dot-style' technique that has garnered clients from all across the world.
He spent the three months leading up to the launch personally refurbishing his new unit on Half Moon Lane, the Northstar Tattoo Studio.
"The industry is changing a little, there are more tattoo shops than barbers but artists are looking to have their own shop now, and for me, it's exciting to come back to my hometown after working in Carlisle for the last seven years," David said.
The Northstar Tattoo Studio promises to offer completely bespoke and private inkwork to anyone coming through its doors, as well as access to David's own designs.
It is currently the only tattoo shop in Wigton.
Staying true to old-school tradition, David also intends to maintain a walk-in service every Monday and Saturday, despite being booked solid for the next three months.
"We're doing it so we can keep it like the old-school walk-in and get a tattoo; a lot of places don't do it anymore; it is just to keep the old traditions going," he said.
In a creative spin, David is also in the process of transforming the unit's unused upper space into a music studio.
He aims to offer free music recording services to aspiring artists and kids in the local community.
David, for whom music started as a hobby when he was a teenager, said: "A lot of people don't have the equipment to record vocals and that kind of thing, I have them so it's about using the space."
The Mayor of Wigton, Christopher Scott, who stopped by for a visit, said: "The opening of Northstar Tattoo Studio has been a long time coming for David, who has poured his heart and soul into creating a space that truly reflects his passion for his craft.
"The studio itself is a work of art, with its sleek and modern design, adorned with David's own stunning tattoo designs.
"The future is bright for Northstar Tattoo Studio, and there is no doubt that David's star will continue to rise in the world of tattoo artistry," he said.
