Carlisle bare-knuckle boxing champion Danny Christie puts his British title on the line on live TV this weekend.
The Currock fighter takes on Welsh opponent David Round at BKFC 60 Milton Keynes.
And for the first time the major bare-knuckle event is being shown live on television through the subscription channel Viaplay.
Christie’s title defence is one of the main features on the latest BKFC card on Saturday evening.
The Cumbrian says he is in good shape and looking forward to being part of a landmark occasion in the tough sport.
“There’s not a doubt in my mind me and David will get on really well after this fight. But he’s coming to take what’s mine and it will be a fight for the fans,” said Christie, speaking on the In The Red Korner podcast.
“This show’s going to be the first mainstream televised card. This is history in the making and I’m very proud to be a part of it.”
Christie is aiming to bounce back from the defeat he suffered to American Jared Warren in his previous BKFC bout.
Before that he chalked up three impressive victories over Terry Brazier, Darren Godfrey and Anthony Holmes, the latter earning him the British light-heavyweight belt.
“It feels like the stakes are ever higher than last time, but I’ve enjoyed it,” added Christie.
“I’ve enjoyed the process. Eleven weeks ago when I started camp I had to drag myself back to health, it took a couple of weeks to get the furnace burning, but after nine solid weeks I’ve never felt better.
“I’ve trimmed right down, I’m only a couple of lbs above fight weight. I feel much more natural being this six or seven lbs lighter.
“So this will be my last fight at light heavyweight. I’m going to deal with David Round in style, and I’m going to move down to middleweight, maybe even welterweight.”
Experienced MMA fighter Round defeated Brazier last time out to set up his title shot against Christie, who added: “Let the fight commence. You’re talking about two tough lads who don’t want to lose to each other, who both bang, who are both game.
“It’s whoever’s the best on the night. Anything else doesn’t matter.”
Another Cumbrian will also be in action at BKFC 60 Milton Keynes.
Bartek Kanabey, from Maryport, will make his BKFC debut on the undercard.
He will take on Bakhtyor Kudratov in a lightweight bout.
Kanabey is a double champion in the west Cumbrian WBKB and now gets his chance on the sport’s big stage.
Nicknamed ‘the Polish Plough’, Poland-born Kanabey describes himself as a “Polish Cumbrian” and will be adorned with a combined flag featuring the Poland flag and the flag of Cumberland before he enters the ring at Planet Ice in Milton Keynes.
“He’s really talented, and he’s really up for it. You’ve got to grab these opportunities,” said the 26-year-old’s coach Dave Straughton.
BKFC 60 Milton Keynes can be watched via Viaplay HERE or on the BKFC website and app HERE, with the action under way from 7pm.
